Content/Ingredients
Soaps are formulated using ingredients that have different functional properties. Essity puts strong emphasis on using carefully selected ingredients in its soaps. All ingredients are assessed from a product safety and environmental point of view.
In line with the ISO 16128 standard, at least 94% of the ingredients in Tork soaps are from natural origins; this calculation also includes water. Our EU ecolabel certified soaps meet strict criteria that guarantee excellent environmental performance, including low toxicity to aquatic organisms, biodegradable ingredients, restricted use of hazardous substances and good performance. This soap is also manufactured in a production site that uses purchased certified renewable electricity.
Results from life-cycle assessments performed by Essity have shown that the water used to rinse off the soap has a significant impact on the total carbon footprint from the use of soap. The impact is primarily driven by the energy used to heat the water and the amount of water used. Consequently, the carbon footprint can be reduced by using less water at a lower temperature when rinsing off the soap.
